About Aksarben Village

Ak-Sar-Ben is Nebraska spelled backwards; the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben were founded in 1895 by the Omaha Commercial Club to keep the state fair in Omaha and lift the city's spirits after the Panic of 1893. The Knights built a thoroughbred track here in 1919 and a coliseum in 1929 to fund their civic work; in the mid-1980s the track ranked tenth in the nation in attendance.
