About Beaver City
Beaver City was platted in 1872 and takes its name from Beaver Creek, itself named for the animals that once built along it. When the county was organized in 1873, a snowstorm held up the town's ballots on their way to Lincoln, and Arapahoe was first declared the county seat. A second election and about three years of court fights later, Beaver City won the seat for good. Dissension delayed the first courthouse until 1888, and the present three-story courthouse was dedicated on May 4, 1951. Young lawyer George W. Norris started his career here before moving on to McCook, and today the town of roughly 540 hosts the Furnas County Fair and Eager Beaver Days.
