From Hello Kitty's global empire to Labubu and K-pop idols, "cute" has become one of East Asia's most powerful and contested cultural exports. This session frames "cuteness" as an aesthetic category, tracing kawaii culture's root in postwar Japan, and its journey into global pop culture.
