About Cedar Creek

Cedar Creek was named for the cedar trees along the creek that runs into the Platte River, about thirteen miles west of Plattsmouth. A Swiss immigrant, John Inhelder, bought land here in 1861 and set aside forty acres for a town, and the railroad pushing toward Lincoln turned his Inhelder Station into Cedar Creek. By the early 1900s there was a roller mill, a quarry, general stores, a hotel, two banks and a Presbyterian church, plus spelling bees, box socials and Christmas programs at Sayles Hall. The one-room-school days are gone and children now ride to Louisville Public Schools. Today the village is a river resort of five lakes, a village park, a post office and a few restaurants, with many more neighbors in summer than in winter.
