About Coleridge

Coleridge was platted in 1883 when the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha railroad reached the spot, and it became the first railroad terminal in Cedar County. Neighboring Lawn Ridge and Norris lent it their beginnings, and by 1885 many Norris businesses had packed up and moved over. The railroad superintendent named it for Lord John Coleridge of England, who happened to be visiting the United States. The town opened its first school district by 1884, and the current school building went up in 1961 and now serves grades 5 to 8. In 2016 neighbors added a memorial plaza on Main Street, with brick walls naming veterans from the First World War to today. Pancake feeds, a Community Club Ribfest, a tractor pull and a Christmas night with Santa keep the calendar full for about 500 people.
