About Dike
Dike began in 1900, when railroad construction engineer Chester Thomas Dike picked the site and laid out the town along the new line, and the place took his name. It was incorporated on January 16, 1901, and grew steadily as a farm-trading town, reaching about 1,300 people in the 2020 census. The grain elevator and the Farmers Cooperative still mark the skyline, a reminder that the town was built on what the surrounding fields grow. Today Dike sits in Grundy County within easy reach of Waterloo and Cedar Falls, and its school district, a library with a long-running events page, and a young population (about a quarter under 18) keep the calendar busy.
