Rabbi Sidney H. Brooks Lecture: Queer and Trans Pentecostal Life in a Divided Brazil
Thursday, October 29 · 5:30 PM–7 PM
Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center · 6400 South, University Drive Road North, Omaha, NE 68182, 68182
Hosted by University of Nebraska Omaha
Free and Open to the Public Reception: 5:30 P.M. Lecture: 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. By the time of this talk, Brazil will have concluded another fiercely contested election. Religion, gender, and sexuality remain central to the country’s political divisions. Brazilian Pentecostalism is often associated with the political right, opposition to feminist and LGBTQ movements, and resistance to religious pluralism. Yet this obscures the growing visibility of queer and trans Pentecostal identities.
