Aikido at Grinnell College

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that resolves conflict by redirecting an attacker's own energy and momentum to throw or pin them. Students learn to move their bodies in a unified way, using hip and core strength, rather than upper body strength, to make techniques work. The Grinnell dojo is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation, and our students have the option to test for rank. Classes are led by Charles Cunningham, 4th dan, licensed instructor (shidoin).
