DESCRIPTION:This talk addresses many different arguments\, that have been
  offered in defense of the Humanities as vital to one's education. After 
 surveying historical justifications for the study of human experience\, e
 xpression\, and thought\, it addresses the "use value" of the humanities 
 in today's academia\, where the destination (a degree\, a job\, a fellows
 hip\, a product) sometimes overshadows the journey of inquiry\, and where
  measurable data take precedent over other forms of evidence-based knowle
