About Haymarket
Lincoln's 1867 plat set aside a Market Square between O and P and 9th and 10th streets, used for produce, livestock, wagons and camping newcomers. In 1874 that block went to a new federal post office and courthouse, and the market moved two blocks north to a new Haymarket Square with scales for hay, cattle and produce.
