About Hudson
Hudson was platted in 1857 on the Black Hawk County prairie, where U.S. Route 63 and Iowa Highway 58 now meet just below the center of town. For its first century it stayed a small farm town of a few hundred people, and it marked its centennial in 1957. Neighbors built much of what it has by hand: in 1936 the Tuesday Study Club, the Garden Club and a group of residents opened a library in a corner of Town Hall with donated books and shelves made by the school's manual training class. When the town kept growing, they did it again, and in June 1999 men, women and children carried the collection into the new Hudson Public Library on Fifth Street. Today about 2,500 people live here, part of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metro but still proud to say it is great to be a Pirate.
