About Jewell Junction
Jewell began in 1880, when railroad crews brought the Toledo and Northwestern line to meet a north-south line and a new town site was laid out on land once owned by D. T. Jewell. The 'Junction' part of the name has faded; most folks just say Jewell. Today about 1,200 people live here, and the town's calendar is built around its Main Street community group, whose barbecue and Jubilee parade fill the second weekend of every June. People walk or bike the paved 3.5-mile JewEllsworth Trail across the Skunk River to Ellsworth, spend summer days at the pool or Little Wall Lake, and visit the Jewell History Museum and the Montgomery Memorial Library, where Coffee Time and Bingo keep the weekdays friendly. The South Hamilton school, home of the Hawks, serves Jewell, Ellsworth, Stanhope and Randall.
