About Kountze Place
Kountze Place was planned as a commuter suburb for professionals such as doctors, lawyers and business owners, and in its early years people reached it mainly by streetcar. In 1898 the grounds of the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition spread across this area, with a Grand Court of temporary neoclassical buildings set around a long lagoon; the fair counted more than 2.5 million admissions.
