About Leavenworth

The street is named for Gen. Henry Leavenworth, an early Western military figure who founded Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In 2023 the blocks from 3105 to 3512 Leavenworth Street, plus a few buildings on St. Mary's Avenue, were listed on the National Register as the Leavenworth Park Commercial Historic District, part of a study of streetcar-era shopping strips.
