About Logan
Logan began with Henry Reel, a Virginian who settled beside the Boyer River in 1852 and, with his sons, set up a grist mill and sawmill that grew into a little place called Boyer Falls. When the Chicago & North Western railroad pushed through in 1867 the town was surveyed and named for Civil War general John A. Logan. In 1875 Logan beat Magnolia by just two votes to become the Harrison County seat, and the courthouse that stands today had its cornerstone laid in 1910. Locals still point out that their town sits on three scenic byways at once: the Loess Hills, Western Skies and the Lincoln Highway. Summers bring a Fourth of July parade, fireworks at the Lo-Ma complex and the Jim Wood Aquatic Center, built by neighbors and opened on July 4, 2009. The library, which dates to 1913, sits near the courthouse and keeps the town's records and stories.
