About Loomis
Loomis was organized in 1885 and officially named the next year, when a post office, bank, school and church went up; the name honors a railroad official, Nelson Henry Loomis. Most early settlers were Swedish immigrants who arrived between 1876 and 1880. A big fire on November 20, 1914 burned nine businesses, and the town rebuilt. Today around 390 people live here, grain elevators mark the skyline, and the village describes itself as a close-knit place where neighbors lend a hand. The Loomis Community Club puts on the Easter egg hunt, Loomis Fun Days, Turkey Day, and Santa Comes to Loomis, and the Wolves play at Loomis Public School.
