About McCool Junction

McCool Junction started as plain McCool in 1886, when the railroad was extended to the spot; it was named for railroad official Daniel McCool, and by 1888 two railroads crossed there, which added Junction to its name. The village built its life around the school, whose main building went up in 1916 after a fire took the old one and has grown ever since with new wings and a gym. Downtown, tiny Bachaman Park wraps around the historic town hall, and the biggest party is the Mustang Roundup each September, with a parade, barbecue, duck races and golf around town. Northside Park offers lit ball fields, a splash pad and camping. The Mustangs brought home state titles in football and girls cross country in 2020, which the whole village still talks about.
