About Milford
Milford began in 1864 when J. L. Davison opened a post office near the limestone ford where the Steam Wagon Road crossed the Blue River, and the town took its name from the mill at that ford. It is the oldest town in Seward County and was the county's first seat, and for decades its Quenchaqua flour mills and Shogo mineral springs drew people from around the region. In 1941 the Nebraska State Trade School opened here, the start of today's Southeast Community College Milford campus on State Street. Today the town gathers in the renovated City Park with its splash pad and pickleball courts, at Thornridge Golf Course for the chamber's Rock'n Reindeer Bash, and at Welch Park for the spring egg hunt.
