About Osmond
Osmond got its start in 1890, when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad pushed its line across Pierce County to this spot, and the new town most likely took its name from one of the railroad's officials. The country around it had been settled by farm families, among them German Lutheran colonists who came west from Wisconsin, and a public school district was already teaching children here in the 1880s. In 1906 the School Sisters of St. Francis opened St. Mary's Catholic School, and Immanuel Lutheran started its preschool in 1991, so the town has long had three schools for its size. Downtown, the low storefronts along State Street, the brick-fronted City Hall, a six-lane bowling alley, the library and the Downtown Memory Lane museum in the senior center keep the town's everyday life close together. Today about 790 people live here, filling the lighted ball diamonds and Poolside Park in summer, the rodeo arena north of town, and the stands for the orange-and-black Osmond Tigers.
