About Plattsmouth

The first settler, Samuel Martin, brought the logs of his Iowa house across the frozen Missouri in 1853 and rebuilt it as a two-story trading post on Main Street. The name comes from the town's spot near the mouth of the Platte River, where Lewis and Clark passed on July 21, 1804.
