About Robins
Robins sits on the north edge of the Cedar Rapids metro, and for most of the last century it was a very small place: the 1920 census found just 110 people. What ties it to the wider valley is an old interurban corridor, the Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Northern line finished to Cedar Rapids in 1914, whose right-of-way became the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, and about four miles of that trail now run through the heart of town. Robins grew quickly after 2000, roughly doubling in ten years, and the city added park space to keep pace, enlarging South Troy Park, its oldest park, and opening a new pavilion at East Knoll Park in 2011. Neighbors gather at the Robins Square clock tower for the December tree lighting, when Mr. and Mrs. Claus roll in on a fire truck, and every June the volunteer Civic Club throws the Robins Roundup, ending with fireworks. Today about 3,350 people call it home, under the city motto Community. Family. Friends.
