Speakers Bureau: Camp Dodge: Home Away From Home, 1917-1918
Friday, November 6 · 11:30 AM–12:30 PM
Slater Public Library · 105 N Tama St, Slater
Hosted by Humanities Iowa
@ On November 6, the Slater Public Library will host military historian Michael Vogt for a presentation on the history of Camp Dodge during World War I. Using period images, maps, letters, and data, Vogt explores how the small Iowa National Guard camp was transformed into the state’s largest military base, where more than 37,000 Iowans trained before heading overseas. This program offers a compelling look at the lives of young men who left home—many for the first time—to serve in the Great War.
