This week in South Omaha
About South Omaha
South Omaha grew up around the Union Stock Yards so fast it was called the Magic City: about 8,000 people when the town was six years old. Packing-house jobs brought families from Bohemia, Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Croatia and Mexico, each with its own churches. The yards closed in 1999; South 24th Street is as alive as ever.
