This week in Springfield
About Springfield
The name comes from the many large springs around the site; one of them has been kept on a property along Highway 50. Springfield was laid out for the Missouri Pacific Railway on 40 acres of Maj. J. D. Spearman's land, and he gave the railroad a half share for its depot and side tracks.
