About Tripoli
Tripoli is a Bremer County town of about 1,200 people in northeast Iowa, incorporated as a city in October 1894. Where its name came from is still debated: some say it honors a hometown in New York, others the Battle of Tripoli. A 1920 snapshot of Main Street, kept by Fortepan Iowa, shows the downtown that grew up around a single commercial strip. Today the town runs its own city hall on South Main, a public library on 4th Avenue SW with more than 16,000 titles, and a school district that serves the town, Frederika and a corner of Chickasaw County.
