About Walnut Hill

Dr. Samuel D. Mercer built his home at 40th and Cuming and platted the Walnut Hill subdivision northwest of it in the 1880s; he also financed Omaha streetcar lines. Mercer's 23-room Queen Anne mansion, built in 1885 for about $60,000 and topped by a square tower, was listed on the National Register in 1976.
