About Waverly
Waverly was laid out in 1870 when the railroad reached the spot, and it took its name from Sir Walter Scott's novel Waverley, which lent several of the town's street names too. Every Fourth of July the whole town turns out for Waverlyfest: a community breakfast, a kids' parade and the Chamber parade, a Money Dive at the Aquatic Center, games in Wayne Park and fireworks over Lawson Park. In July, just east of town, the Camp Creek Threshers fire up steam engines and antique tractors for their threshing show, and the old Waverly Depot now stands on their grounds. Come December, Waverly Fire/Rescue brings Santa through town on the Santa Express, followed by a lighted parade.
