This week in Winside
About Winside
Winside was platted in 1886 when the railroad line between Wayne and Norfolk brought a depot to this stretch of Wayne County. It had to beat out Northside, a settlement about three miles away, and its promoters put their hopes right in the name: Winside. The railroad did settle the contest, and the new town grew along its Main Street, where the Lied Winside Public Library now stands at 417 Main. Today Winside is a village of 381 people on the northeastern Nebraska plains, and its Wildcats, from preschool through twelfth grade, are the school family that fills the calendar with football, band, one-act plays and community performances.
