About Albert Lea
Albert Lea sits between lakes in southern Minnesota and takes its name from Albert Lea Lake, which was named for a topographer who surveyed the area in 1835. A small settlement began on the lake in 1855, a stage line came the next year, and the village got its city charter in 1878. In 1943 local leaders started Jobs, Inc., and its industrial park, which opened in the 1950s, was the first in the nation. In 2016 Albert Lea became the first Blue Zones certified community, and people now walk the lakes and the Blazing Star State Trail.
