Scholars' Convocation: Caleb Elfenbein

Being alive can be pretty overwhelming. The beauty we experience can make this overwhelm feel ecstatic and joyful. The suffering we experience can make this overwhelm feel enervating and painful. Much of the time, being alive can also leave us simply feeling whelmed. The humanities are a living record of our attempts to make sense of these varieties of our experience, the whelm and the overwhelm.
