About La Crescent

La Crescent sits on a bend of the Mississippi River, with tall bluffs behind it. Peter and Emma Cameron founded it in 1851, and the town was first called Camerons. A land company later chose the name La Crescent for the crescent-shaped river bend. Apple grower John Harris planted the first orchard in 1857, and the town is still known as the Apple Capital of Minnesota. Each September neighbors come out for the Apple Festival, and the library runs talks and workshops all year.
