About Caledonia
Caledonia was laid out in 1854 and 1855 by Colonel Samuel McPhail, who named it after the old Roman name for Scotland. It became the Houston County seat in 1874, and its stone courthouse with a tall center tower was finished in 1885. The town sits in the far southeast corner of Minnesota, where rolling hills meet bluffs and trout streams, and it calls itself the Wild Turkey Capital of Minnesota and the Heart of Quilt Country. Today people tour painted barn quilts, cheer at the Houston County Fair in August, and turn out for Founder's Day in June and Wild Turkey Fest with its balloon rally in October.
