About Cameron
Cameron began in 1879, when a few pioneer families settled on a bluff a mile and a half south of today's village, because they had heard from L.C. Stanley, a rich lumberman from Chippewa Falls, that a new railroad would pass that way. The Chippewa Falls and Northern Railway reached Old Cameron in 1882, a depot opened that September, and Stanley laid out the town the same year. The village took its name from Angus Cameron, a United States senator from Wisconsin, and a post office called Cameron has run since 1882. Today Cameron is a Barron County village of about 1,870 people along U.S. Highways 8 and 53, with a public library on Main Street and a summer splash pad for the kids.
