About Fulda
Fulda was founded in 1881 along the Milwaukee Road railroad, mostly by German settlers along with Scandinavian and Irish families, and it was named for the town of Fulda in Germany. It sits at the north end of Fulda Lake and is still mostly a farming community. The rail line closed in 1980, but its two-story depot is kept as a museum, and a Civil War cannon the town bought in 1892 stands in the city park. Fulda calls itself the Home of the Wood Duck for the many wood ducks that pass through, and each June it holds the Wood Duck Festival with a parade, carnival, music in the park and fireworks.
