About Harmony
Harmony grew out of Greenfield Prairie, a settlement of mostly Norwegian families from 1854, whose shops moved north when the railroad came through in 1879. The story goes that a heated meeting about the town's name ended when one man called for harmony, and the name stuck; the village was incorporated in 1895. Boys hunting for lost pigs found Niagara Cave just south of town in 1924, and Amish families from Ohio began farming the area in 1974. Today people ride the paved Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail from the Trail Head Park, tour the cave's underground waterfall, and gather in the city park every Fourth of July.
