About Preston
Preston was platted in 1855 on the Root River and took its name from Luther Preston, a millwright and the first postmaster. It is the seat of Fillmore County, and its courthouse sits in the middle of the town square, one of only a few in Minnesota placed that way. The town calls itself Minnesota's trout capital, and a 20-foot trout stands along Highway 16. People come to fish the river, ride the bike trail on the old railroad bed, and walk past the restored Milwaukee Road grain elevator and the old county jail. Trout Days, the Fillmore County Fair and the Mistletoe Market bring neighbors downtown through the year.
