About Hayfield
Hayfield grew up on the prairie of Dodge County, where Hayfield Township was organized in 1872 and took its name from a township in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The town had a station on the Chicago Great Western Railroad, and a post office opened in 1885. It was incorporated in January 1896, and the nearby Vernon Co-operative Creamery was counted as the oldest farmer-owned creamery in Minnesota. Today about 1,400 people live here, where Highways 30 and 56 meet, with two city parks, a public pool and the Hayfield Vikings at the local schools.
