About Mantorville

Mantorville was founded in 1854 and is named for Peter and Riley Mantor, brothers who came to the spot on the Zumbro River the year before. The town became known for Mantorville limestone, a stone that is soft when cut and hardens with the weather; it was used for the Hubbell House in 1856 and for the 1865 Dodge County Courthouse, the oldest working courthouse in Minnesota. Its downtown of old stone buildings has been a historic district on the National Register since 1974. Today people watch summer melodramas in the 1918 Opera House, fish below the dam in Riverside Park, and come back every September for Marigold Days.
