About Blooming Prairie
Settlers came to the prairie here in 1856, and the railroad village platted in 1868 took the name Blooming Prairie for the many wildflowers on the land around it. The town was incorporated by 1874 and grew as a farm trade center on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad. Its two-block downtown along Main Street, built between 1893 and 1932, is so well kept that it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Today the town of about 2,000 sits where U.S. Highway 218 meets Highway 30, and its school teams are the Awesome Blossoms.
