About Long Prairie
Long Prairie takes its name from the river that runs through it. In 1848 the Ho-Chunk people were moved here to a reservation, where they built a village with homes, a school and a church, until a new treaty moved them in 1855. The town was platted in 1867 and became the Todd County seat. Its 1883 Italianate courthouse still stands on a hill in the middle of town. Today about 3,700 people live here, with food-processing jobs, Harmony Park's mosaics and pond, and two museums.
