About Osakis
Osakis sits on the southwest shore of Lake Osakis, a big prairie lake, and takes its name from it; the town was founded in 1866. The lake's ice-out dates have been written down since 1870, the longest such record of any lake in Minnesota. Downtown, the City Hall was built in 1936 as a WPA project and still holds a carved mural by Depression-era artists showing the area's history. Today people fish and swim from Park Osagi and the city beach, ride the bike trail through town, and pack downtown each September for the Taste of Osakis weekend.
