About Apple Valley

Apple Valley began as Lebanon Township in 1859 and farmed for nearly a century. In the mid-1950s builder Orrin Thompson started houses on the farmland and borrowed the name Apple Valley from a California town. Voters made it a city in 1968 and picked the name over Lebanon Valley. Today it is known for the Minnesota Zoo, Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Freedom Days on July 4 and a February Winter Carnival.
