About Burnsville

Burnsville stands on a bluff above the Minnesota River, where a Dakota village led by Chief Black Dog stood around 1750. Irish, Scottish and Norwegian farmers followed, among them William Byrne, whose name was written down as Burns and never fixed. In 1950 it was a quiet township of 583 people, and then Interstate 35W arrived and the town boomed. Today it has a downtown called Heart of the City with a performing arts center, 79 parks, Crystal Lake, and the Burnsville Fire Muster parade.
