About Farmington
Settlers began arriving here in the early 1850s, and the village grew up around the railroads and the Vermillion River. The train stop was called Farmington Station, and people liked the name so much it stuck. The Dakota County Fair moved to town in 1869, and in 1897 Farmington was among the first places in the country to get rural free mail delivery. Today people know it for the historic Exchange Bank Building downtown and the Top the Tater Days festival each June.
