About Berlin
Berlin began in 1845, when Nathan Strong settled on the Fox River at a spot first called Strong's Landing; when a post office came in 1848, it took the name of the Prussian capital, and it became a city in 1857. Its tanneries and glove makers made it known as 'the fur and leather city' for more than a hundred years, and Wisconsin's first commercial cranberry growing started nearby. Folks here say BUR-lin, with the stress on the first part of the name. Today families stroll the brick storefronts of Huron Street, walk among the old homes around Nathan Strong Park, and spend summer days at Riverside Park on the river, with its campground, ball fields and disc golf.
