About Elbow Lake
Elbow Lake takes its name from a lake just west of town that bends like an arm at the elbow, and the town was laid out in 1886. Even before that, the spot won a hard fight with Herman over the Grant County seat, when a court ruled in Elbow Lake's favor in 1882. In 1906 the county opened a brownstone courthouse with a dome more than 100 feet tall, and it still stands at the end of Main Street. Today the town celebrates its Scandinavian roots each August at Flekkefest and honors its Norwegian sister city, Flekkefjord, with trolls along Central Avenue. Families gather downtown for Trunk or Treat in October and for the Holiday Train stop in December.
