About Fergus Falls
Fergus Falls takes its name from the rapids on the Otter Tail River, found in 1857 by a man working for James Fergus. George B. Wright bought the town site in 1870 and built a dam to power a sawmill, and the town became the Otter Tail County seat in 1872. Today it is known for its river walk, a downtown sculpture walk, A Center for the Arts in a 1921 theater, and Otto the Otter in Grotto Park. In market season, neighbors shop the farmers market by the river on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
