About Morris

Morris was platted in 1869 and named for Charles F. Morris, a railroad engineer. A post office opened in 1871, the year the town counts as its start, and it became the Stevens County seat. Farming still shapes the town, and the University of Minnesota Morris, which opened in 1960, adds a college campus to a small prairie city. Today people come for the Pomme de Terre River, the campground and golf course, the university gardens, the county museum in an old Carnegie library, and summer events like Prairie Pioneer Days.
