About Fairfax
Fairfax is a small farm city in Renville County, where Minnesota Highways 4 and 19 meet, with Fort Ridgely State Park close by. The town was laid out in 1882, named after Fairfax County, Virginia, and became a city in 1888. Its wooden Minneapolis and St. Louis depot, built around 1883, is the oldest railroad station in the county still on its first site, and it now holds the Fairfax Historical Depot Museum. The Minnesota Prairie Line railroad runs beside Highway 19 near town. Today about 1,250 people live here, and summers bring a Tuesday farmers market and Dayz of Thunder with its parade.
