About Winthrop
Winthrop is a small town in Sibley County that has had a post office since 1882 and became a city in 1910. The South Branch of the Rush River starts near town, and State Highways 15 and 19 meet here. Each April the town holds Grackle Days, a festival named for the blackbird that it has run for forty years, and each July it throws Farm City Fun Fest with a parade. Today families use the big city park with its shelters, ball fields and new skate park, honor local veterans at the park's memorial, and visit the town's history museum on Carver Street.
